1908 Rawhide Balloon Hill Nevada Mining Co Stock Cert 1908 Gold Mining Near Fine Nevada gold mining scam, Rawhide Balloon Hill Mining Co stock certificate issued and uncancelled for one hundred shares, 1908. According to George Graham Rice's book and author Dan Plazak the Rawhide Balloon Hill Mining Company was never much more than a shell prospect to bring in gullible investors, to the latest scam district. When Rice's Sullivan Trust Company collapsed in January of 1907 it was said that their list of gullible and easily fleeced "investors" was worth much more than any property that Sullivan held. Signed as VP by Gene Grutt who with his brother had been one of the original discoverers in the district. Rawhide Nevada was characterized by a few rich but shallow placers, and more substantial gold ore deposits were generally of low grade and an open pit occupies much of the area today.
