1908 Rookwood Sallye Coyne Scenic Vellum

Presented for bidding today is this superbly artistic Rookwood scenic vellum decorated by Sallye Coyne. Decoration is of a maritime scene, not the usual 'Venetian' decoration but of tall ships in rough seas. The ships' sails billowing and the white sea foam leaping from the wave crests exhibit the dire straits these merchantmen faced. In keeping with the subject matter, the vase is done primarily in varied hues of green, shading to a rich brown at the top. Standing 8 1/2 inches high, 2 1/2 inches across the mouth and 3 3/4 inches across the widest, the vase displays quite well without being over bearing. Marked with mold #904D, RP, VIII, SEC, the vase also is x'd because of glaze sagging on the bottom edge (see photos). No damages or repairs of any kind, just normal crazing.
