This magnificent, signed, carved marble bust of a mother and child is dated 1909 on the underside, and comes straight from estate sale. Signature appears to read G. Haughton or Haughron. This work depicts a lovely semi-nude mother holding her child. The woman's right breast is exposed, and a flowing robe or blanket drapes around the child. The woman's long hair is up and wrapped around her head. While this work comes from the heart of the Art Nouveau period, it also shows elements of neo-classic style. Overall condition is good, with no large chips or visible cracks. Surface is soiled to a degree that's appropriate with its age (95 years). Has some colored scuffs and other marks which can be cleaned.
Additional images forwarded upon request. Dimensions: 24" high by 22" wide by 15" deep. Weight: 140-180 lbs. estimated. Additional Keywords: Bijan.
