Up for auction is a great 2 volume set of the "Birds Of New York". Very large 2 volume set which is complete and in excellent condition. Volume one has 1910 on the title page and volume two has 1914 on the title page- This is the way they were published as stated in the books- they were not published at the same time. The 2 volume set has matching dark green hardcover bindings with gold lettering on the spines and are in excellent condition- probably the best looking set I have ever seen and I have seen a lot of books in my 25 years as a book dealer. Because the books are so large and heavy and just about 100 years old they are usually found with broken bindings or at least cracked hinges. These two volume are beauties with all hinges solid and very well bound. No fading at all to the bindings with fresh color and vivid gold lettering on the spines. All complete with 106 one sided full page color plates- mostly done by the famous naturalist artist Louis A. Fuertes. In addition to the color plates are over 900 more pages of text and old photographs- Loaded with information on the birds of New York State. A very comprehensive study published almost 100 years ago by the brought together and published by the Museum of New York and the University of New York. The inside pages are in excellent condition.
