1910 DANVILLE PA RPPC Parade Float TEDDY ROOSEVELT This auction is for an outstanding real photo postcard that shows an unusual parade float from the New years Day 1907 parade in Danville, Montour County, PA. the caption reads MUMMER’S PARADE, DANVILLE, PA JAN 1ST 1910 and the banner held by one of the marchers reads ROOSEVELT RETURNING HOME FROM AFRICA. The scene shows someone dressed as teddy Roosevelt on horseback, a long dragon-like animal with 7 people underneath, and 4 people dressed or painted black like African Natives holding guns and machetes. By today’s standards this is very politically incorrect but in 1910 it was probably taken with humor or admiration. The card is Not postmarked and the overall condition is VF with worn corners.
