But on March 3, 1910, the Elks Arch and all it was to represent changed forever. A group of vigilantes rushed inside the Dallas County Courthouse w Allen Brooks, a 68-year-old black man, was standing trial on charges of molesting a 3-year-old white girl. The jury would never have the chance to decide Brooks’ guilt or innocence. The mob tossed Brooks from the second floor of the courthouse and dragged him down Main Street. Patrons of the nearby Palace Drugstore peered out the second-story windows to see one of Brooks’ assailants scale the Elks Arch and affix a rope to a telephone pole directly below. A crowd of more than 2,000 Dallasites then watched as Brooks was hoisted to his death. please see picture's for condition post mark stamp on front looks like corners were made rounded - postmarked 1910 on back - this is an very rare orginal card - not an repro - ..........shipping is 1.25 will combine - i accept palpay, checks and money orders - thanks for looking and good bidding - john Hi i accept paypal read more
