ANTIQUE CIRCA 1910 WELLER ART POTTERY MUSKOTA WOODCRAFT OWL ON BOOK FIGURE ~ POSSIBLY DESIGNED AS A BOOKEND ~ ~ WONDERFUL CONDITION ~ ~ NO RESERVE ~ Welcome to the month of May, and the spring season. Being offered for your consideration, with NO RESERVE , is this wonderful Antique Circa 1910 Weller Art Pottery Muskota Woodcraft Owl on Book Figure. Sam Weller established the pottery bearing his name in the small Ohio town of Fultonham in 1872. This area of Ohio is rich in the natural clays necessary for earthenware production. The Muskota line was first offered during the early 1900's. This wonderful piece of Weller Muskota art pottery features a lone owl sitting atop a single book. It is quite possible that this piece may have originally been designed to function as a bookend; the figure is done in a semi matte glaze with hand painted facial features. This small statue is hollow with an opening in the base; the base measures 5 ¼" by 4". The figure stands 7" in height. Although the base is unsigned we guarantee this piece to be Weller in origin. In wonderful condition this figure is free of any type of damage such as chips, cracks, flea bites, or repairs. We did notice overall crazing in the outer clear glaze layer due to the age of the earthenware. This figure has come from a smoke free estate collection and is odor free. ~ PLEASE NOTE ~ that any white areas appearing in the photographs are the result of flash photography, and do not exist on the actual object. . ~ ALSO NOTE ~ that I have additional auctions for American Art Pottery, including Weller, currently on Ebay so you may want to check my other auctions.
