A book of travel, with 3 chapters on Japan, also Calcutta, Kapurthala, Delhi, Jeypore, Agra, Dholpur, Kolar, Rangoon, Mandalay, Hongkong, Canton, Shanghai, New Zealand, Honolulu, San Francisco, Salt Lake City, New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Montreal, Quebec, etc. Through his powers of persuasion he was able to experience and participate in ceremonies that were hidden from the ordinary traveller. Binding is somewhat shaken, hinges are tight, covers and spine are very lightly rubbed with some small whitish marks on the spine, no loose, torn or missing pages that I saw, interior is spotlessly clean! Top of page edges are gilt and the gilt on the spine and cover is vivid. As with any book this old, some aging and/or minor imperfections should be expected.
