He travelled throughout Europe selling his waches, with England as his main market. Brandt died in 1879 the business was taken over by his two sons who created a factory for total in house manufacturing and total production control. They moved to Bienne in 1880. They produced watches of different grades. Both brothers died in 1903, leaving a company that produced a quarter million watches a year and employed 800 people in the hands of four young people, the oldest was 24 years of age. He was Paul Emile Brandt, considered to be the great architect and builder of OMEGA. In 1930 they merged with Tissot within the group Societe Sussie pour l'lndustrie Horologe or SSIH. By 1970's the SSLH was number one Swiss producer of finished watches and number three in the world. They again mergedin 1983 with the owner of Longines, Rado and Swatch watches to form ASUAG-SSIH. In 1985 it was purchased by a group led by Nicolas Hayek and renamed SMH. They achieved rapid and great success to become today's top watch producer in the world. In 1998 it was named the Swatch Group it now includes the brands Breguet and Blancpain. OMEGA SERIAL # 3,676,000 WAS MADE IN 1911 +/- ONE YEAR. YOUR WATCH WAS MADE FOR THE AMERICAN MARKET. THE DIAL STATES THE NAME OMEGA AND ALSO SWISS MADE. THIS WAS A U.S.A. LEGAL REQUIREMENT FOR ALL IMPORTED WATCH MOVEMENTS, NAMELY THAT THE COUNTRY OF ORGIN WAS MARKED ON THE DIAL AND/OR THE MOVEMENT OR BOTH. YOURS IS A SIZE 16 WATCH WITH 17 JEWELS. AT THE SAME TIME AS YOUR WATCH WAS MADE THE OMEGA COMPANY WAS ALSO MAKING " RAILROAD GRADE " POCKETWATCHES, WHICH WERE THE MOST ACCURATE TIMEKEEPERS. THESE HAD SPECIFIC LETTERS OR GRADES MARKED ON THE MOVEMENT, e.g. CCR,CCCR,DR AND DDR. THESE POCKET WATCHES USUALLY HAD 23 JEWEL MOVEMENTS, BUT OTHERWISE RESEMBLED THE MOVEMENT IN YOUR WATCH. ALL OF THE OMEGA MOVEMENTS HAD DAMASCENING, WHICH WAS A BEAUTIFUL WAY OF DECORATIONG THE WATCH PLATES. ALL NON-RAILROAD WATCHES WERE ADJUSTED TO KEEP TIME TO WITHIN ONE MINUTE PER DAY. THE DIAL OF YOUR WATCH IS PARTICULARLY BEAUTIFUL AND HAS A WHITE PINK AND BLUE PORCELAIN DIAL WITH ARABIC NUMBERS WITHIN A CARTOUCHE. THE GOLD FILLED HUNTER CASE WAS MADE IN CANTON, OHIO BY THE DUEBER-HAMBDEN WATCH COMPANY WHICH MADE CASES AND MADE THEIR OWN WATCHES. OMEGA USED TO ADVERTISE THAT THEIR WATCH SIZES COULD FIT ANY AMERICAN OR CANADIAN MADE CASE. UNFORTUNATELY, THE HEAVILY ENGRAVED HUNTER'S CASE IS 10 K GOLD FILLED RATHER THAN SO...
