Premiums in Cigarette Packs early 20th Century
The Flag were inserted in tobacco packs from around 1906 up to around 1916. Sizes
range from about 6.5” x 4” up to around 17” x 12” and some larger.
Most flags are about 8.25 x 5.5” in size. Tobacco premiums included
a large variety of subject as well – silk flags, Indian blankets,
butterflies, colleges, sports and movie people, etc.

These very colorful and vivid blankets or flannels were sometimes used to
make bedspreads, quilts, wall hangings, table covers and even robes and other
clothing by the wives and daughters of smokers.

From my experience, seems that the Americas (North, Central and South) are the
most common, along with Europe. Even so, countries like Brazil and Peru are tougher
to find, along with the earlier less-than 48-star USA flags. The Confederate
flag is also difficult to find. Asia and Africa are tougher, except for Japan and
Russia. Countries like Persia, Turkey, Egypt, Korea (spelled Corea on
the flags), all China but especially the China flags with the Dragon on it
are difficult.
I believe these flags are documented and priced in some large collectibles books.
These books are hard to find and tend to be pricey.
These flags have the collectibles designation of B-6 for the 8X5s, B-7 for the smaller varieties, B-3,B-4 and B-5 for the larger flags.
Australia, New Zealand and that area of the world’s flags are not as common as
well. I've never seen a South Africa, or some of the smaller
European countries. Some of the African nations seen are Liberia, Free Orange
State, Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia. The Phillipines flags are extremely rare, I've seen and sold only a few.
And there are lots of varieties (border differences, background colors) for
all the flags. Also, flags that were previously in use by the country are
included in the collection.

Flags of Greece and Italy with the Crown on it are rarer than the standard flags. And the
larger flags (11x7.5 and larger) are tougher to find.
I always have good responses to the Italy, Greece, Norway, Panama, Cuba, Ireland, Zion (Israel),
the Union Jack, Venezuela and...
