This is an auction for the tea pot only. The creamer and sugar are being sold together in a separate auction for no additional shipping if you are interested in all 3 pieces. Both auctions will start at $9.25, with no reserve. This 94 year old tea set epitomizes the Arts & Crafts movement. The incredibly artistic handles are superb with romantic flowing, curling leaves, while the body was hammered of thick sterling silver. This set was masterfully crafted by the very accomplished English silversmith H. Matthews, assayed in Birmingham, England 1913. The pot's hammered body is of a honeycomb design, oddly like that of a golf ball; each facet's edge was precisely hammered to connect with the next...simply stunning. Please look at the the photo, as this hammering pattern is very difficult to describe. The spout is made smooth to contrast the body. The lid is hinged securely, and is topped with a wood/silver finial. The dome shaped wood portion is fastened with the threaded sterling finial attached with the original sterling wing-nut, these tiny sterling items are stamped with the lion passant. The handle is very creative held with leaves and scrollwork. The handle is also a deep mahogany of classic proportions, very secure even with a small section of wood in need of repair. All three pieces are were finely executed, and weigh a combined 31 ounces. Condition : The silver bodies on all three pieces are in mint condition, with no dents, bends, breaks or repairs! This set is unmonogrammed. The wood handle would benefit from some restoration work. The tea pot can be picked up securely by the handle, and it does display well, but the bottom of the handle is missing some wood and its pin. This is the only questionable area to the complete set. Material : Sterling Silver (925/1000). Weight : 18.9 on postal scale, or 536 grams. Measurements : 10" or 25cm in length, 5 1/2" or 13cm high. 4 Markings : " HM " (Maker's marks for H. Matthews); " Anchor " (Mark for Birmingham); " Lion Passant " (english mark denoting sterling, 925/1000 pure silver); " O" (Year mark for 1913). Origin : English Birmingham, England. The first part of my user id is sterling, and I do specialize in selling authentic vintage & antique sterling items. I take pride in offering silver that is in above average condition and of higher quality. Most items are purchased from local estate auctions or antiques markets, and my starting price does not reflect their value. Of course these would bring more at Sotheby's or Christie's auction house; but I trust the gallery owners and private collectors will help determine their fair market value. Thanks for looking. MONEY-BACK GUARANTEE : I have an untarnished reputation for complete disclosure of condition in my descriptions, and try to provide plenty of photos. I have received 100% positive feedback from my buyers . I have been selling since 2000, and my #1 goal is your satisfaction. Serious bidders only; I will cancel bids with a questionable feedback rating. SHIPPING : The winning bidder is to add $14.00 for USPS Priority mail within the USA, insured . I accept paypal, money orders and checks. International bidders will have to add $30 for insured Priority shipping. International bidders are to pay with either paypal or an International Postal Money Order. I ship promptly after cleared payments. I look forward to earning your repeat business.
