About this Book ”With the Victorious Bulgarians” is Wagner’s account of the time he spent reporting the Balkan War of 1912 during a crucial period of the the campaign in Thrace. As a war correspondent on the front lines he was in a position that allowed him to see much of what what going that was beyond the reach of the foreign military attaches. Wagner gives the background causes and events leading to the war, discusses the Bulgarians and the Turks and their armies and the Bulgarian plan of campaign. He describes the battles of Kirk Kilisse, Lule Burgas-Bunarhissar, Chatalja, the struggle for Adrianople etc., the plight of the wounded, the devastating effects of the war on the people and countryside, the position of the Great European powers in the War and finally the peace negotiations and his experiences as a war correspondent. A very vivid and well-written firsthand eyewitness account of the 1912 Balkan War. This book covers much of the same ground as Noel Buxton’s “With the Bulgarian Staff”. About the Author Lieutenant Hermenegild Wagner I can find no biographical details about the author Lieutenant Hermenegild Wagner other than that he was the war correspondent for the “Reichspost”.
