Now increasingly rare, especially in this condition, this is the September 1913 issue of the Austin Harrison edited English Review . A very good copy in blue printed wrappers. Some highlights include: Thomas Hardy's new poem, " The Place on the Map, " here first printed , opens this number. Sub-titled here, "A Poor Schoolmaster's Story," Hardy removed the sub-title and made a few other changes to the poem when he collected it in his "Satires of Circumstance" (1914). See photo #4. Henry Newbolt's essay " The Poetry of Chaucer ." Madame Simon A. Paget's eight-page advertisement "Choses a la Mode," with her own fashion illustrations, on the latest in Paris designs. See example in photo #6. D.H. Lawrence's 32 -page " Italian Studies ." See photo #5. May Sinclair's new story, "Khaki." The story's listless hero, here signs-on for the Boer War . Norman Douglas' 9-page essay " The Mad Englishman ." Douglas, who at this time was on the staff of the Review , was currently in-between personal scandals.
