1914-15 Star awarded for J.27635, James Stone, Ordinary Telegraphist. Enlisted in the RN as a Boy 2nd Class on 15 September, 1913. Was serving aboard the destroyer, HMS Ardent, part of the 4th Destroyer Flotilla, at the battle of Jutland, 31 May-1 June, 1916.The Ardent took part in the famous nightime destroyer action against the German Fleet and was sunk. Of her crew of 79 just one wounded sailor survived, James Stone being one of those who died in this epic action. He is commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial.He was born on 6 April, 1898, the son of Stephen William Stone and and I. A. Stone, of Fairview, Wormshill, Sittingbourne, Kent.The medal is in very fine condition with replacement ribbon, and comes with a copy of his service record.The P&P reflects recorded, signed for delivery.
