Up for auction is this Vintage 1914 Boy Scouts National Star-Spangled Banner Centennial Service Award, also known as the "American Flag Centennial Service Award", Commemorating the 100 Year (1814 - 1914) Anniversary, and Featuring an image of Francis Scott Key and a "Flag & Banner" motif, and with a Red, White and Blue Ribbon attached with a Nameplate Type of Pinback Feature. This is a great find and a beautifully designed Service Award Medal, which states on the obverse side "Given In Recognition Of Splendid Services Rendered By You As A Member Of The Boy Scouts During The National Star-Spangled Banner Centennial, Baltimore, MD, Sept. 6-13, 1914". The nameplate type of badge or pinback feature has a place for the recipient to (presumably) have their name engraved into the space provided between the word "To" and "For Services Rendered", but it appears the Scout who received this medal only wrote his name into the area with (what is now faded) ink, which is hardly visible. The ribbon is in good condition, showing only a slightly soiled (or faded?) color on the white stripe. The medal itself shows only very slight verdigris on a couple of areas on the obverse side. The medal is in very good condition, and measures approx. 1 ¼" x 1 ½" not including the ribbon, and approx. 3" x 1 ½" including the ribbon and nameplate badge/pinback.
