Griffith's Birth of a Nation). This is The Victim, a Romance of the Real Jefferson Davis, illustrated by J.N. Marchand, published in New York and London, by D. Appleton and Co.511 pages, with the little {1} that Appleton used to indicate first editions at the end of the page block. Bound in pinkish patterned cloth, 8x5 inches, 6 full page prints by Marchand. One of the most scarce works by Dixon, first one we have seen. An homage to Jefferson Davis, president of the Confederacy during the Civil War. Dedicated to the Confederate soldiers "who died for what they belived to be right."
