Very interesting bicolored post card prepared for the first flight in Jun 1914 between Melbourne-Sydney, Australia, depicting (on reverse) the pilot, A. B. "Wizzard" Stone and the event organizer and manager, P. V. Ryan, with vintage Bleriot aircraft at top, unused, but bearing Australia 1d King George V postage stamp on address side, with printed legend reading, "Australia's First Aerial Mail, Melbourne to Sydney, Promoted by Arthur Rickard & Co. Ltd., This card is purchased on the distinct understanding that the Postmaster-General accepts no responsibility in the event of non-delivery through accident or any other cause," addressed to "Can Do, Box 1552, G.P.O., Sydney." On May 12 1914, the Australian Postmaster General announced that the Australian Post Office had arranged for A. B. "Wizzard" Stone, a visiting American pioneer barnstorming pilot, to carry the first official air mail between Melbourne and Sydney. The departure was originally scheduled for May 23 1914, to carry up to 140 pounds of mail. Unfortunately, the Bleriot aircraft was damaged in transit and the flight was delayed to Jun 6 1914. But Stone crashed the plane on Jun 1 1914, damaging the aircraft and causing himself injuries. Accordingly, the flight was cancelled. These unused cards list for $A350 in The Australian Air Mail Catalogue, Eighth Edition (2008).
