is another really beautiful near antique Birks sterling silver single slot ring box in excellent overall condition. The box measures 1 1/2" x 1 3/4" x 1 1/4" and has a unique hexagonal shape with bevelled edges. It opens from a hidden click catch at its front and has a perfect back hinge - straight and strong. The box has its original black velvet ring pad and original satin lid liner with "Henry Birks & Sons Limited Goldsmiths & Silversmiths" stamped into the silk. The velvet pad is clean and nice, it's still quite 'plushy' but the black has faded slightly around the edges and t is a bit of wear around the ring slot. The silk lid liner is in amazingly good condition considering the age of the box. The Birks' logo has 'shifted' a little, probably because the padding underneath has lost its puffiness. It is stain-free. Both the pad and lid are intact with no rips, tears or frays. The sterling silver is (miraculously) free of any dings, pings, dents or creases, except for one teensy pinhead mark on the back of the box on the lid edge and a small ping on the box bottom at the back. Neither would not be very noticeable once the box was polished (I don't polish my boxes). In fact, neither marks show up in my photographs. The lid has no monogram and no sign of monogram removal. The bottom is clearly stamped "Sterling". Some very light overall surface scuffing on the box but again, nothing a nice polish wouldn't get rid of. The box will be shipped with a photocopy of Birks' 1915 catalogue page that features this box. It's a terrific box - very practical for today's larger rings and wider settings. The perfect box to showcase that one-in-a-million engagement ring. Make sure you read the June issue of Country Living magazine - t's a fantastic article about ring box collecting.
