I am selling a great old real picture post card which shows firefighters battling the fire which destroyed the dome of Bascom (Main Hall) on the University Of Wisconsin Campus. (Bascom Hall still stands today minus the dome). The fire occurred on Oct 10th, 1916 and the card is postmarked Oct 13, 1916 so this card was mailed fresh off the press. Adding to the intrigue of this item is the comment which is provided by the student who sent it to his family in Milwaukee. "This gives you an idea of the lack of firemen and water pressure in this burg. In Milwaukee this fire wouldn't have lasted five minutes". The card is signed by "The Kamera Kraft Shop" which produced local post cards in Madison, WI. The card is in very nice condition with typical slight surface wear but still solid with a semi-gloss finish. I am selling a number of other post cards and real photos which date to the early 1900's and many reveal University of Wisconsin College life including early hazing games and interior dorm pictures. They come from an old scrapbook so check out all my auctions. United States buyer has shipping included. International buyers are welcome but should contact me for an exact shipping quote as the rates have changed recently. I accept Pay Pal. I do my best to describe my items but please feel free to ask questions about the item listed. THANKS read more
