You are bidding on a beautiful, rare 1916 D Mercury Dime, graded and authenticated by NGC as VG08 condition. In 1916, the first year of the Winged Liberty Head Dime (the official name), the Denver mint only minted 264,000 coins, by FAR the lowest of the series. The 1916D is one of the most popular key date US coins, and this rarity is sought after in any condition. This particular coin was graded by one of the top grading services, NGC, as Very Good 8 condition. However, if you look at the sharp, close-up images I have included in the auction, you can see that it is a high-end VG8 approaching VG10. The rims are full on both sides, and do not intrude on the lettering, date or mintmark. The D is clear and bold, and the fasces on the reverse shows much more detail than many VG8 coins. Compare the details with other VG8 and even VG10 or F12 coins being sold on Ebay. Finally, the coin has a nice, light silver color throughout, with no color changes or distracting marks to speak of. The apparent scratches are on the slab, not the coin. This is truly a great specimen, and t is little doubt in my mind that the winner will be satisfied with this classic American rarity.
