81 Total Items - [76] Handwritten Soldier Letters - Correspondence. & [1] Photograph "Lyon Tabernacle Building." Written on the back "Leroy Tappen April 5, 1917 Camden NJ" Poor cond. w/ water markings on the photo. [4] Used Postcards from Leroy.All Have creases and were folded. "Knox County Court house, Knoxville TN, two Camp McClellan Alabama. postcards with cartoon illustrations.& a soldier smoking a Chesterfield. --------------------------------------- Handwritten Letters are all to his wife. All From Soldier Leroy Tappan. CO.H 2nd 113th Infantry. Apo 765 France AEF. From Camps: McClellan Al - Camp Stuart, Newport News VA & France. [60] During The War 1917-1918 & [16] After The War Jan-Mar 1919 In France. Letters Mention In Part: Camp Life - We marched out to the Fair, they gave us a seat in the Grand Stand [Trenton NJ] - The Regiment went out this afternoon, we expect to leave sometime tomorrow but no one knows w we are going - Out for a hike - Gift boxes received - Going out on a six day hike - Have to sleep with our clothes on to keep warm - We are still on the go, moving from one place to another [France] - We are quarantined in camp for ten days now. We had fourteen men that broke quarantine got out and went home on "Frenchies", they will be sentenced and will serve their time out in the front line trenches on the other side - Flying Machines are as thick as birds in the air down They are guarding the coast [Newport News] - I don't think that this War will last very much longer. It is getting pretty hot for the Dutch men they are being pushed back on their own ground now - It took us twelve days to make the trip, we are in a nice part of the country, fences & buildings of stone, all the Farmers wear wooden shoes, farming by women and small boys, we are in tents, expect to move into barracks [France] - A hour ride on a train which brought us ? hundred miles from w we got off the Ship [France] - Twelve hundred men arrived from Camp Dix last night [McClellan ?] - We are camping out near the rifle range now about three miles from camp. Our CO is keeping score while the rest of the COs shoot - It sounds like real War , they are shooting on the range all day long - Hope they ship us home soon - We are in the S.O.S - Newspaper clipping inside a letter mentioning 29th D CO. H coming home - Been in this town for two months so I think it is very near time for us to move again and let us hope that we move towards home - We fellows sit around the fire nights and talk about the narrow escapes that we have had - Sitting by the fire thinking of home - They can't keep us in France forever - Most all of the towns that we have been in are the same. Some of them have been damaged so bad the people couldn't live in them - Staying at Hotel Europe - Government is trying to give all the boys a chance to see some of the country over before going home. Different Divisions have different places to go to - Expressions of love through out the letters - & Much More. Mixed Cond. Most Good Cond.
