Gold Rush Coins and Jewelry is pleased to offer this superb 57mm bronze medallion issued in 1917 by popular German medalist Karl Goetz. This is just one of many Karl Goetz medals and pattern coins from an old-time collection we will be offering. Much of the collection has already been sold. All were acquired mid 20th century with the last Goetz medal being added 42 years ago in 1972. The obverse of this satirical medal also known as "Wilson's successes" shows President Woodrow Wilson dressed as Uncle Sam whistling to China, the Dragon, to join the allies in defeating Germany. The reverse shows the seated figures of neutral Scandinavia, Spain, Switzerland, and the Netherlands on a bench with their backs turned, unconvinced of the need to enter the Great War. This is one of the most famous of the World War I series of Goetz satirical medals. We know you will be pleased to add this to your collection.
