1917 MASS LICENSE PLATE Massachusetts license plate #2245 was issued to Horace B. Ingalls of Swampscott beginning in 1914. (The family also had numbers 2246 and 2247 that year.) The plate number stayed in the family every year until December of 2002 when the last remaining (in Massachusetts) member of the family died without heirs.( I suspect that the plate "lived on" in Registry records until May of 2004.) Anyway the plate showed up in the low-number license plate lottery in 2005 and was given to guy from Methuen. I contacted him about the history of the plate but he never got back to me.Offered is the 1917 plate, a better than average example of the flat, stencilled, design which was used from 1916 to 1919. The size is 6" by 9.5".Condition is pretty good for this year. The background still has some blue in it and the numbers have not yellowed as much as some. See photo above. Also, the plate lies perfectly lfat. The main flaw is a deep horizontal scratch across the middle of the plate. Back of the plate is clean with the green primer.Terms: seller will ship to U.S. address only. Buyer pays $2.79 postage and must take delivery via U.S. mail. Insurance extra if desired. T is a seven day return policy, exclusive of postage, in effect.I also have the following Mass. plates with this same number which I am willing to sell: 1914 and read more
