As we continue traveling around Italy searching for special treasures to bring you on Ebay, we are always looking for one of our particular favorites - the Italian Hand Painted Ex-Voto. We view them as one of the most beautiful and fascinating of the Italian Religious Art forms. Painted ex-votos have a long rich history in Italy going back to the 15 th Century. These painted images are offered to God, the Blessed Mother or a Saint as a form of prayer, and are given as a thank you for prayer's answered. They tell a very personal story which is what makes them so fascinating. They most often deal with illness, accidents and disasters at sea. The ex-voto is generally left at a Church altar. They are very public, yet intensely personal professions of faith in God. We are always captivated by the different artistic styles that have been created by the Artists from the various regions of Italy .
