1919 British India General Service Medal w/ Small Medal From the estate of a local collector. This medal is in good vintage condition, ribbon has slightly faded from it's original colors and does not come with clasp/pin. The 1908 India General Service Medal was awarded for service in military operations in and around India between 1908 and 1935. The medal was not however, awarded for service during the Great War 1914-1918. Believe t were three different obverse designs, the medal presented is believed to be the second design which features the crowned bust of King George V and had a legend that read 'GEORGIVS V KAISAR-I-HIND'. Comes with the "Afghanistan N.W.F 1919" clasp, which was the most common issued, and was awarded for service during the Third Afghan War from 6th May to 8th August 1919. The war began when Afghan regulars with some tribal support launched a tepid invasion of India.The reverse looks to be a depiction of India, with the word "India" in a laurel wreath. Comes with a smaller medal measuring 3" long wiht "Afghanistan N.W. Frontier 1919"The edge of the bottom is marked, "G-27153 PTE. G.R. J. Johnson, R.W.
