RARE 1919 VINTAGE GIBSON A-3 MANDOLIN VINTAGE 1919 GIBSON A-3 MANDOLIN Depending on one's perspective, this could be seen as a rare restoration opportunity or a source of extremely hard-to-find parts. Offered is a 1919 Gibson A-3 Mandolin. The peghead has been broken off and badly repaired but also included is a similar vintage Gibson A-1 Mandolin neck complete with original tuning machines. Someone has removed the original ivory lacquer from the top and refinished it in a rather ugly brown. The back and sides appear fairly worn and quite dirty but the finish is original. The original grained ivoroid pickguard and its patented hardware are included. The original tailpiece with its engraved "The Gibson" cover is also included. The A-3 back, sides and top are virtually undamaged. No cracks or old repairs are seen. Original nut. Original binding and soundhole rosette. The A-1 neck is straight and except for a few dings and scratches is undamaged. What may look like a crack on the back of the peghead in the photos is a scratch. It has been varnished over the original finish. The tuning machines are in excellent condition with grained ivoroid buttons. The ivoroid pickguard is somewhat warped (not too unusual!). The nut which holds the mounting bracket is missing. The screws which hold the tailpiece to the body are not original. The bridge read more
