Amongst these was the British two shilling coin , which was issued from 1849 until 1967. Originally composed of .925 silver (later reduced to .500 silver) the British florin was worth one tenth of a pound sterling, or twenty-four old pence. In 1968, in the run-up to British decimalization, the two shilling coin was nominally superc eded by the decimal ten pence coin, which had the same value and initially the same size and weight.
