2+ pgs letter, approx. 5-1/8" x 6-1/2", Sept., 1920, Fort Slocum, New Rochelle, N.Y., from Private Frank Simmons, "Post Hospital M.D., Fort Slocum, N.Y." ("M.D." = Medical Detachment). Written on stationery with blue engraved letterhead : "WITH THE U.S. FORCES SOMEW IN AMERICA ", (a post-WWI play on the AEF dateline for letters "over t", as "Somew in France"). Includes the original transmittal cover with "YMCA. WITH THE COLORS" red & blue printed corner card, and with Sept. 14, 1920 dated NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. flag cancel with "FORT SLOCUM/MILITARY BRANCH" in the flag, tying 2 singles of 1c green Washington. Private Simmons is writing to his Aunt, Mrs. Marion Ferrera at New Bedford, Mass . An interesting letter, written while he is on all night duty as a nurse. He has been to NYC several times, but will take New Bedford any time. Includes: "...Johnny went to the Mexican Border to Fort Sam Houston, Texas, and I was suppose to go t also, but they are going to keep me , but I told Johnny that when he does one year, for him to get a transfer to Fort Rodman, for that is what I am going to do also, for I will be in my home town and I wll be able to sleep home every night and it will be better.
