This painting was in an old suitcase with some old magazines at an estate sale. In addition to the painting and the magazines t were two cards with the name, “James W. Havelka”. This painting is signed, “J.W. Havelka”. I think that the two cards very likely belonged to the artist. I am including the cards in the auction. You can see them in a photo. The Union Pacific Omaha Athletic Club card is dated 1931. So I think it probable that this painted was painted in the 1930's or possibly 1920's. If I did not have the cards, I would guess from the style and the paper board that it is painted on that it was painted in the 1920's. The painting is titled, “Dream of Life”. For me, it tells a universal story. The paint shines a little in areas so I think that it is very likely oil paint. The stiff paper board that it is painted on measures close to 12 ½ by 11 ½ inches. The image with the dark background measures about 10 ½ by 10 ½ inches. The borders are painted gray. The condition is much like you see it in my photos. The back of the paper board is soiled. The two cards are soiled and wrinkled. T is some damage to three corner areas of the paper board. My photos should give you a good idea of its general condition. I guarantee this item to be as described and as represented by my photos. The opening bid is not my estimation of value. read more
