Brass-body 1920s Automatic Electric telephone with buzzer button. Handset is the model found on the A.E. type 34 "Shirley Temple" Bakelite telephone ...but the handset on the phone offered in this auction has NO drop-in receiver unit or drop-in transmitter unit. T are two holes 180 degrees apart on the chrome band of the receiver cap, and I assume they're used to seat a tool which turns the cap when it's on too tight. No cords are provided. The handset can be retrofitted with contemporary components supported by expanding foam, etc., and the phone connected to a subset with induction coil, capacitors, and ringer to make usable. T are no cracks or chips on the Bakelite handset. The distressed paint on the phone and the handset cradle is obvious. And the circular rubber gasket which helps seat the base plate on the bottom of the phone has, over the passage of 80 years, softened, squished, hardened, and in places peeled away. Reproduction gaskets are available from certain members of ATCA or Antique Telephone Collectors Association, also known as Addled Telephone Collectors Association.
