1920's BUTTERFLY WING PICTURE - "JAPANESE GEISHA GIRL

1920's BUTTERFLY WING PICTURE - "JAPANESE GEISHA GIRL"
Description:

A charming image of a Japanese lady with a parasol. The image is created by painting the scene on the back of the glass, (reverse painting), and then the butterfly wings are laid behind so that the irridescent colours shine through the unpainted sections. In this little picture apart from the black background, the parasol and her head and parts of her dress are also partially painted with pink, blue and green. The central section of her dress would originally have been irridescent blue but shows pink from the butterfly wings probably due to excess sunlight, one small section still shows bright irridescent blue. It is in its original wooden frame with a wooden backboard with paper covering and has a wooden 'easel' support. The label is present on the easel with the patent number: 202213.

Condition / Defects:

The picture is in good condition; the butterfly wings have faded as described above.

Dimensions:

Approx: 3 7 /8 " x 3" (98mm x 89mm).
