1920s Cast Iron DRAGON Handle Smoke Stand Standing 31" high, this unusual (painted black and gold) cast iron smoke stand features a jagged spine backed Dragon handle. In its hands is secured a 5" high 4" wide tapered vessel with a removable (4" wide) tilt top ashtray; at the underside is a patent date that appears to be (19) 26. The (11" high) dragon is fixed to a 9 ¾" wide round rimmed tray to hold pipes, cigarettes or glasses or whatever you please.
A ribbed central column with decorative base joins the fancy patterned triple footed base. The underside of the base is incised with "SCROLL ART MFG. CO D800" "Bport. Conn." "Pat Appl-d For". This weighty piece has missing overall patches of finish with rust patches inside and out, but remains intact and extremely intriguing. Made to last several lifetimes, a thorough cleaning and refinishing will provide a renewed appearance for this vintage smoke stand. It's a fascinating tobacco collectible---and a great conversation piece.
