Up for auction is an Antique Little Giant Grass Hook Farm Scythe -- Circa 1895 to Early 1920's . . . . . . The Measure: TWO Blade Stampings (Both are faint): (1) LITTLE GIANT GRASS HOOK M'F'D BY NORTH WAYNE TOOL CO. HALLOWELL MAINE U.S.A. (2) LICENSED UNDER EARLE-TILDEN-SELLERS-BARDEN PATENTS OTHER PAT APPLIED Blade: 12-1/4" Curved Blade Length (Very Sharp!) 16" Blade-Tip-Handle-Butt Length Originally Hardened and Tempered in Oil Note: Stiffening Bead in the Web that Runs Parallel to the Blade's Back (adds strength). Note: Full of Hand-Honed Sharpening Marks from a Scythe Stone (Unfortunately the Close Up Photographs do not show this well). Handle: 5-7/8" Length 1-5/32" Thickest Diameter "Beehive" Corrugated Hardwood Grip (Made of rosewood and black lacquered) Tang Travels Through the Entire Handle (Which is then splayed for a tight fit) Ferrule: Steel Drop Forged 4-Prong Ogee Shank: Color: Originally the Steel Shank was an Red-Orange (You can see some of the color remnant lodged in the crevices -- That is NOT RUST -- though it does kinda look like it in the Shank close up pic...) Weight: 11.1 Ozs.This is a really nice Seller's Grass Hook -- Very Sharp -- Very Clean !!! . . . . . . . . . . . . . After careful packaging it will weigh 1-3/4 Lbs. to mail.
