Offered is a circa 1920s intricately woven Navaho weaving that measures 6 feet 8 inches long by 3 foot 6 inches wide. It is attributed to the Ganado, Hubbell Trading Post area and is in excellent condition. It was woven by a master weaver on a primitive upright loom of all Native hand shorn, hand carded and finely handspun silky old long staple Churro sheep wool, both warp and weft. The wool in this weaving would be known as Crystal Wool. J. L. Hubbell, like J. B. Moore, sent off wool to be commercially cleaned before giving it back to one of his best weavers, as did Moore . The design of this piece is exquisitely executed with precision. The entire field design is created with parallel rows of tiny connected stepped interlocking diamonds. Two 4 row bands of these form the large central diamond and half diamonds at the ends. Smaller similar half diamonds accent the end and side field areas of the textile. The border all around is an interlocking reciprocal stepped wing tip motif done in dark red & copper brown and outlined in white. A narrow 1" dark brown ribbon outlines the outer edge of the blanket. The weave in this rug is exceptionally smooth and evenly done making it just as nice as they come.

We obtained this vintage Native American textile in Arizona just to offer to you on eBay. It has a tight, firm weft count averaging 28 per inch and a warp count of 7 per inch. The selvage cords are 100% intact and in excellent condition. Side selvages have been professionally restored. Warp selvages are 2-spiral cords each 2-ply, Z-spin and S-twist. Weft selvages are 2-spiral cords each 2-ply, Z-spin and S-twist. Corners are all tight and in excellent condition. All four tassels have been restored to excellent. T are 2 small restorations on 2 corners measuring 1" x 3 ½" and 1" x 2. No holes, no odors, no moth nibbles, no fade, no stains and no snags. It is pretty clean and comes from a non-smoking home. Both sides are even in color and are shown in photos below. T are a few very faint spots of red and copper brown bleed. It lays flat & smooth and is symmetrical. Colors are bright and strong in this old American Indian carpet and they are: natural beautifully hand blended and carded light grayish brown, natural dark chocolate brown, natural ivory white along with hand dyed aniline copper brown and aniline deep cardinal red. Complete with lazy lines, this extra nice example of antique Native Americana is ready to display in your own hacienda, give as a special gift, or just tuck away in your private rug + blanket collection.
