for your consideration is a very rare, old, authentic set of 'WOMAN SPINNING YARN' bookends by ARMOR BRONZE. This set is large and heavy. They're an unusual, beautifully detailed, and, incredibly interesting pair. It shows an older woman in an old-fashioned long dress with an apron over it, wearing a kerchief on her head and a knotted scarf around her neck. She's sitting on a stool spinning yarn into skeins. Beside her is a basket with the skeins of yarn she's completed. Each bookend stands 5 ¾" tall, 5 ¾" wide and 2 ½" deep. Together they weigh 4 lbs. 8 oz. They are the old bronze-clad method of manufacture with a polychrome finish. The structural condition of this set is excellent. Amazingly, t are no repairs, or, missing pieces; even the thin piece of 'yarn' wire that she is spinning is still intact with no old repairs. T are no cracks, breaks, or, holes. The finish is good to very good. The kerchief on her head and the ball of material she is spinning show the most loss revealing the bronze underneath. Most of the polychrome colors are still beautiful and rich, the red apron covering her long blue dress are still appealing. The original felt is intact on the bottoms along with the original stickers on both bookends. These bookends are way above 'consistent for their age'. Both labels on each bookend reads: ARMOR BRONZE CO. TAUNTON, MASS. ARMOR BRONZE, GOODS OF MERIT, U.S.A. by MASTER CRAFTMEN. Under the protective felt is the indentation with the metal wick that has been cut off after being 'dipped' for hours in bronze. This being the telltale sign that these are the old, expensive, abandoned method of production that is so coveted today. We welcome any questions you may have. We guarantee all of our collections.
