The Story Behind the Peace Dollar The Peace Dollar was introduced in 1921 as the successor to the popular Morgan silver dollar series. Although the former series generally attracts the most attention from coin collectors, Peace Dollars offer collectors various challenges and highlights. The series spans from only 1921 to 1935, with a total of 24 different coins by date and mint mark. In 1921, the high relief coin was made, but due to the difficulty of complete strikes in high relief and the fact that they didn't stack well and received numerous complaints from banks, the high relief silver dollar was discontinued and the rest of the series was struck in regular/low relief. Many of the 1921 coins were then melted down for their silver content and to create more coins in the years to come. A Rare Gem in this condition!!!
