"THE SUN FIELD" by Heywood Broun. New York: The Knickerbocker Press; G. P. Putnam's Sons; 1923. First Edition.5 1/4 x 7 5/8 inches; red cloth; 204 pages plus 6 pages of ads of books from Putnam's Sons.The book has gold titles in a rectangular box on front cover and gold title on spine with two gold bars. There is gold missing in a couple of spots at bottom of rectangle on front cover and from the bottom bar on spine and from the name "Broun" on spine. The spine is also quite faded.The book is clean and tight but shows a little wear at corner and front bottom spine edge. There are a few specks of wear on back cover and two small fade spot on front cover. The top page edges are dusty. There is an ink name on front endpaper. The book is often described as the first novel with serious baseball content aimed at an adult audience. Broun was a famous sportswriter who was a good friend of Babe Ruth and Christy Mathewson and was a member of the Algonquin Round Table. This book certainly belongs in every good baseball collection!!
