This 1923-S Monroe Doctrine Centennial Commemorative half dollar is graded and certified MS62 by NGC. The California film industry promoted this issue in conjunction with a motion picture exposition held in June 1923. The obverse shows the heads of James Monroe and John Quincy Adams, who were identified with the Monroe Doctrine. The Western Hemisphere is portrayed on the reverse in forms that suggest two female figures. The obverse has scattered gold toning along with some gold, blue and red edge toning. The reverse has light gold toning along with some green, red, blue, and gold edge toning. This lustrous coin would make a nice addition to an early commemorative collection!
