AUCTION DESCRIPTION

Up for your consideration is a pair of very nice, old and authentic French Art Deco Bookends in the form of his and herâe(tm)s lake-side geese. This is a solid bronze pair that is Cubist in nature, and the maker is most likely LeVerrier based on the style and composition, similar to his âeoeAigles/Eaglesâe and âeoeVautors/Vulturesâe pieces.

Each unique, French bookend wears a hunter green patinated finish that is quite nice, still original, and highly durable. Both geese stand on bright yellow-green marble bases that possess a single rounded edge near the rear of each fowl. These stunning pieces are from the very early to mid 1920s and are marked "Made in France" just as they should be.

You will find this pair to be in near stellar condition for its age, aside from some common fleabites along the perimeter of the marble. T are no major flaws, and they are free from any cracks, breaks, repairs, and anything else that would distract from their artistic beauty.

Both bookends have a nice presence and composition, and each goose stands in its own unique pose, one with its neck raised and beak open and the other with its head down low to the ground searching for some crumbs. The taller piece stands at 3 ¾âe Tall and its mate is 2 ¼âe Tall. The bases measure 4 ¼âe Long, 2 ¼âe Wide, and ¾âe thick, and the pair weighs nearly 3 lbs.

As stated, these original, authentic French bronze bookends were most likely made by LeVerrier, but since they are unmarked, the maker could be another of the famed French Deco artists. Either way, they will surely make a fine addition to any collection.
