First off, I am NOT a coin collector. So, I do not know the jargon or terms commonly used; so forgive me if I use such a term without realizing an unique meaning it may have. I often attend estate auctions to look for props for my photography. I purchased a box full of goodies a couple of years ago. That is where I found this coin, loosely wrapped in a tissue and just lying there among the other items. Gold has gone up so much, that I figure now is as good as time as any to sell it. I'm not going to spend the money to send it off to have it graded. But, if you compare it to other similar coins that are graded it looks to be in great condition! No returns on this: item in photographs IS what you are bidding on. Gold coins are special, and I actually am reluctant to part with this 1925 $2.50 gold piece. I never even knew the US Mint even made a coin like this! In 1925, the mint produce about a half million of these In dian Head Gold $2.50 Quarter Eagles. The engraver was Bela Lyon Pratt and you can see his initials just above the date. Other info: Metal Composition: 90% Gold - 10% Copper Diameter: 18 mm Mass / Weight: 4.18 grams The Indian Head quarter eagle and its larger companion, the half eagle, stand out from all the rest of United States coinage because their designs and lettering are sunken in a plane that is uniformly flat. read more
