EXQUISITE Early 20th Century PHOTO ART BOOK From the renown "Orbis Terrarum" series Published by the prestigious German printing house WASMUTH VERLAG known for its quality photographic monographs printed in photogravure ORIGINAL 1925 FIRST EDITION PALESTINE, ARABIA and SYRIA Aleppo, Baalbek, Bethlehem, Damascus, Gaza, Hebron, Jerusalem, Jericho, Karmel, Libanon, Medina, Mekka, Mokka, Nimrud, Petra, Sidon, TripoliArchitecture, Landscape, Life of the People LARGE AND HEAVY BOOK Size 9" x 12" IN VERY GOOD CONDITION Containing 304 FULL-PAGE MESMERIZING PHOTOGRAVURES from the photographs taken by renown German photographer Karl GROBER and legendary team LEHNERT & LANDROCK This is rare book of great historical value. Breathtaking photography and one of the finest gravure volumes you'll find. The quality of the images is unbelievable, they are extremely sharp and detailed, and the scans don't do them justice. They were printed in PHOTOGRAVURE which is known for its EXTRAORDINARY RESOLUTION, PRECISION, DEPTH, AND TONAL GRADATION that could only be achieved by using this expensive and unique technique at that time. It combines the precision of photography with the beauty of print-making, delivering excellent image quality and detail. No praise can be too high for the magnificent books which German Verlags started to publish in the early 1920s. The first volume was "Greece", a masterpiece of photography, and the volumes that followed were fully equal to the first. These books are all in large quarto format, giving the opportunity of using a large picture, in contrast to the small and ignoble formats used by most English and American publishers of illustrated works at that time. The books are handsomely bound, and the reproduction of the photographs in duotone is perfect; the original plate could give no finer or clearer copies. The rich inks of these pictures in either sepia or black is a treat to the eye. But the peculiar charm and beauty of these plates is not only in the reproduction, it is in the actual taking of the photographs themselves. They are the work of masters, and reveal unknown and dramatic aspects even of familiar things and scenes. Today they are priceless, since many places were destroyed during the wars, and the world has changed.
