These are unsigned but made by one of three companies, either Pompeian Bronze, Armor Bronze or Marion Bronze. They are large, measuring 8 inches tall and weighing over 9 pounds the pair. They are what we call bronze clad bookends, made a special in the 1920's by only a few companies. They used to dip plaster molds into a bronzing solution by means of long metal wicks in the bases until bronze clad. Then they would cut off the wicks in the base, leaving telltale remnants in shallow depressions in the bases. So we always know these bookends. They have yet to be faked or duplicated since the process was so expensive and time consuming. As such, they are highly collectible by bookend collectors and are rapidly escalating in value. These are circa 1925, art deco in origin and style, and guaranteed old, genuine and original. They show a giant horned owl, perched on a stack of books, looking like a big, spooky halloween owl with those orange painted giant eyes. The paint on these is mostly intact and the finish has the original antique patina in good condition, very little loss and no damage. A rare set indeed. Just a few minor small nicks in the bases. No loss of plating at all. Again, they are by one of those 3 companies and are rare and valuable. Thanks for looking and please see my other auctions for more antique and vintage cast metal
