These are guaranteed old, genuine and original Ronson Company Art Metal Works 1922 art deco bronze coated pot metal elephant bookends. They are large at almost 6 inches tall, 8 inches long and weighing 8 pounds the pair. They look even larger since they are so three dimensional or fully figural. They show a giant bull elephant in full stride, tossing his big, fluted ears and tusks to one side, on a rocky slope. The tusks are also metal, separately cast and painted ivory. The finish is what Ronson called Imperial Bronze which looks black to our eyes. Beautiful tiered and detailed art deco bases. These are the larger size ones and are much more valuable than the smaller set of these. Kuritzky shows these and calls them in his antique bookend reference guide "The Encyclopedia of Bookends", page 140, Plate 844, and describes them as very rare and also dates them to 1922. These are in such great condition, couldnt' be better, all of the finish, original perfect antique patina, no damage, original felts on bases and one even has the original Ronson label!!! Dont' let these pass you by, you may never get a chance again to get a set in this shape. Please see my other auctions for more cast metal antique and vintage bookends and doorstops that I will combine on shipping whenever possible.
