This famous photographic duo who worked out of Cairo, Egypt, produced imagery in the early 1900's which was internationally collected and sought after. In romantic images they recorded the people and traditions of countries like Tunisia, Egypt and Algeria. They were well known for their images of the Ouled Nail, an Arab tribe whose women earned their dowries performing as geisha for rich patrons. Their photographs, which were particularly popular in the West, included many nude studies which gave a highly exotic (and erotic) view of an Arabia based largely around the allure of the harem, the desert and the oases. Most vintage Lehnert & Landrock material is small (postcard size) - work of this size is scarce. Today their extraordinary vintage work is held in numerous important museums and collections worldwide.Finephoto is pleased to offer this rare collection of outstanding nude studies which were carefully selected and assembled in 1924/25 by Dr. Peter Landow in Berlin, Germany. With a search spanning from Europe and Africa to distant South Pacific Islands, Landow sought the finest in nude photography from the world's greatest photographers. In 1925 after a lengthy selection process, the resulting 120 images were printed in the finest quality sepia toned gravure to the highest archival standards . The paper is of superb quality and the prints themselves are simply beautiful to behold.
