WOW! Huge and HISTORIC lot of personal papers from an old prospector or miner and mining engineer. Almost all items date from the late 1920’s to early 1930’s and regard California, Tonopah Nevada, Nevada, Mojave Desert and other places in the Southwest. THESE ARE ORIGINAL ITEMS, some hand signed and hand written, one of a kind items, unique! YOU WILL NOT FIND THIS LOT AGAIN. Almost all items regard a man names Judge L O Ray (these were his property, so addressed mainly to him). Searching him on line I find a few mentions. Between the search and some brief scans of the items it seems to me that LO Ray was a very nice guy, lots of friends, who ran around trying to get rich on mining claims (I know so many people like this today – the MLM types, lol). One mention of him states: “…found rich silver ore in the mountains north of Tonopah… he filed for six claims in the area naming them the hornsilver, the ladysmith, the boomerang, the jenny belle, the Christmas gift and Teddy Roosevelt.” Goes on to say Ray was a mining engineer born in Iowa, he formed the Ray Mining Co. and other companies. T is also a website for a Beatty Museum & Historical Society in Beatty, Nevada that at one time had some mention of him, a photo caption I think.
