Extremely Rare Musical Program - The Junior League of Honolulu presents HULA MOON, produced by DON BLANDING, music by R. ALEXANDER ANDERSON.May 2, 3 & 4th, 1928 - produced in conjunction with the first ever Lei Day, and performed at the Princess Theatre. Blanding directed the show, designed the cover of the program, and even designed all the costumes in the show (many are pictured in the program). The patrons and Patronesses of this event, as well as the cast, reads like a Who's Who of Honolulu from the time: Governor Wallace R. Farrington, Princess Kawananakoa, Frears, Castles, and Cookes, etc... Includes a photograph of Nina Bowman who was the first lei queen of Lei Day, an annual event founded by Don Blanding (which still happens each year on May 1st). Vintage advertisements include: The Royal Hawaiian Hotel, Lewers & Cooke, The Oahu Railway and Land Company, The East Indian Store, Junior League Shop, Metropolitan Market, H.F. Wichman & Co. Jewelers, The Young Laundry, Clicquot Club. Program is 20 pages, in excellent condition with minimal wear.
