This auction is for an authentic vintage engraved 100 Share Certificate issued to Charles Edison, son of Thomas Edison, from the Splitdorf-Bethlehem Electrical Company issued in 1928. This historic document was printed by the American Banknote Company and has an ornate border around it. This item is hand signed by the company's president (and owner Splitdorf) and treasurer and is over 79 years old. Charles Edison later became president of this Company. The Splitdorf Company made radios, magnetos, lighting systems, spark plugs and other electrical products. They had manufacturing operations in Newark N.J. and in Canada and produced radios throughout the 1920's. The company merged with the Thomas Edison Company in early 1930's. The company was founded by C. F. Splintdorf. The Splitdorf - Bethlehem Electrical Company was a venture between Bethlehem Steel and Splitdorf Electrical Company. Thomas Edison's association with radio manufacture came about when his company purchased the Splitdorf Radio Corporation of Newark in New Jersey, USA around 1928. Along with many other manufacturers in the 1920s, Splitdorf had been caught by producing too many radios for a contracting market at the beginning of the depression.
