You are bidding on a circa 1929 Crosley model 609 Gemchest metal console radio with distinctive Chinese styling. Actually, it is more likely a model 708 Showchest, which is externally the same as the Gemchest. The finish is black crackle with bright painted or plated trim and a flamingo shape over the speaker opening. The radio works well with no hum, but does need a good antenna and a ground. It is an 8-tube neutrodyne circuit with push-pull output tubes and a Crosley Dynacone (dynamic, or field coil) speaker. The chassis is very clean and rust-free, and includes the appropriate globe type tubes that would have been originally installed. The speaker cone is perfect. The cloth covered power and speaker cords appear to be original and in great shape. The black crackle finish is in good shape. T are areas of surface rust starting, as well as some scratches and finish loss. However the radio displays very well and t is NO need to repaint it. The bright trim previously may have been repainted - I'm not sure. The flamingo figure in the center of the speaker appears to have been painted in the distant past. This radio had no grill cloth originally. The knobs are original. Local pickup is encouraged. The item is located in East Tennessee, USA, near the junction of Interstates 40 and 81.
