This old trainyard display comes from a long-closed hardware store. They had this set-up in the show window at Christmas time. The layout measures 3-ft by 8-ft, as does the custom table on which it sits. The wooden train bed consists of 2 end pieces, 2 trestle or bridge-like structures (13" tall to give some idea of scale), and 4 straight pieces. It is wired (wires are beneath the wooden pieces and run up through columns) so that the 28 lamp sockets can be lighted by transformer. It hasn't been lighted since I obtained the layout; I don't know much about what's involved in getting the internal lights up and running. I never even screwed in the tiny lights to attempt it. I am guessing that the wiring is still sound, but I'm not certain. The wooden pieces are joined by hook and eyelet. It is very likely a custom-made set-up from decades ago, quite intricate in its design and workmanship. Some areas of wood are split, but overall damage is minimal for its age. O-gauge track fits exactly onto the bed and in the end turns. The hardware store used a single train engine; I have found that using an O-scale trolley can make the turns freely, but large engines with long cars end up hitting the wood side rails. HO trains would easily navigate the turns, but the scale would be off a bit. The houses that are shown in the picture were made in the 1960s, and used in the setup until the store closed. They are included, and their workmanship is also very impressive. Because of the fragile nature of the set, as well as the heavy platform on which it sits (which also has legs to make it table set-up if desired), I'm marking this as 'pick-up only.' Any questions or comments are welcome.
