This item was collected by an 83 year old woman that did most of her collecting during the 1930's-1950's in the San Diego and Los Angeles areas. Earrings measure 7/8" and the screw backs work just fine. No missing inlay. Signature looks like JF, JL or possibly a B.Charles Jimenez is the author of the book, THE SLEEPING MEXICAN PHENOMENON. It traces the roots of what became a tourist craze during the 1940's but is really a pictorial narrative of the Mexican siesta. In later years it became corrupted to mean 'lazy Mexican' when in fact it was a sensible thing to nap during the hottest part of the day and is done in many parts of the world. "Siesta Style" and "Mission Style' became highly popular, especially in Southern California. Tourists to Mexico in the 1940's found 'Sleeping Mexicans' to be a welcome souvenir to this style of decor.Winners on multiple auctions PLEASE WAIT for an invoice. t _gsrx_vers_525 (GS 6.6.5 (525))
